Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for a Director of Intramural & Recreational Activities position. The Director of Intramural & Recreational Activities (SIRA) provides leadership and management over comprehensive recreational services, shared facilities and programs within Student Life. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, development, assessment, implementation, and management of an innovative, comprehensive recreational program that provides services for nearly 1,000 participants annually through five major programming areas: Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Fitness/Wellness, Outdoor Adventures and special events (e.g. Pirate Training, Sprog spirit orientation activities). These programs cover the informal, competitive, social and instructional components of recreation that provide the campus community the opportunity for development through active, healthy, inclusive and sustainable experiences. This is a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position who reports to the Vice President of Student Life.
Primary Duties:
Executive management of full time, part time, and student staffThis includes the SIRA assistant/coordinator, Outdoor Adventure assistant director, coordinator, sport club coaches and advisors/volunteers, fitness instructors, personal trainers, student supervisors and assistants, intramural supervisors, and sport officials.
Oversee and direct the recruitment, selection, supervision, development, support, and evaluation of SIRA fulltime and part time staff.
Meet regularly with direct reports.
Departmental and program management and leadership.
Provide leadership, direction, planning, organization, marketing, and evaluation for all program areas within SIRA including Outdoor Adventure.
Maintain and balance annual budgets to include: operating, gift, fundraising, purchasing and contracts, and assets.
Planning and Assessment
Establish departmental strategic and assessment plans.
Develop, implement and monitor short and long-range goals for the department.
Contribute to the annual report utilizing data to set and assess progress and completion of goals.
Develop a comprehensive risk management strategy that implements risk management policies and procedures for all program areas, including the training for all SIRA employees and volunteers.
University representation and other duties
Manage relationships with university departments and oversee department participation and resources including: SUnity Day, Pirate Training and Maiden Voyage spirit programs.
Maintain professional affiliations, certifications, and enhance personal growth and development to remain abreast of the latest trends in collegiate recreation
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Master’s degree in recreation, sports administration, physical education or related field.
Minimum of five years, full-time experience in collegiate campus recreation with increasing responsibilities preferred.
Three years of experience in the training and supervision of a diverse staff of employees, students, and volunteers.

Proven organizational skills.
Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of traditional college-aged students, especially the cultural differences and the diversity within the campus community.
Demonstrated professional manner with all internal and external University constituents. Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work products. Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations.
Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.
Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule, including availability for evenings, weekends, and during the summer.
Ability to work in a typical office environment with or without accommodations.
Preferred Position Requirements:
Seven years of experience in Student Life position in an institution of higher learning with five years supervisory or management experience.
Experience with budget management.
Experience within a residential college and/or residence life environment, preferably a small, liberal arts institution.
Experience with contract negotiation, risk reduction, and liability management.
