The Department of Campus Recreation at East Tennessee State University is seeking four (4) graduate assistants in Sport Programs (1), Outdoor Adventure (2), & Fitness (1) for the 2024-2025 academic year. The goal of our graduate assistantship program is to foster the development of up-and-coming recreational professionals by immersing them in a hands-on recreational facility. Graduate assistants will gain knowledge in their primary program area, as well as student employee management and development, leadership theory, and risk management.
Payment & Compensation: Tuition waiver (eligible for both in-state/out of state students); Stipend of a minimum of $10,800 for academic year; Funding for professional development including NIRSA sponsored state, regional, and national events and conferences; Opportunity for hourly summer employment. All positions require a successful evaluation to renew for second year. Graduate assistant may work evening, weekends, and during extended university breaks (fall break/spring break).

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Sport Programs, the Sport Programs Graduate Assistant will assist with the comprehensive planning and coordination of a comprehensive Intramural Sports and Sport Club program. ETSU has two (2) graduate assistants in Sport Programs. For 2024-2025, we are seeking to hire one (1) graduate assistant in Sport Programs.
Job Duties
Assist the Assistant Director of Sport Programs with the management of a comprehensive intramural sports program.
Assist with officials’ clinics, training, and evaluation for major sports including flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball and softball.
Perform administrative functions for the intramural program. Examples include planning, scheduling, performing assessments and evaluations, holding disciplinary meetings with participants, etc.
Assist in league and tournament scheduling and management; take the lead in planning and managing special leagues and tournaments including kickball, dodgeball, eSports, etc.
Assist in recruiting, training, evaluation, and supervision of undergraduate student workers who perform as Officials, Supervisors, and Program Assistants.
Assist with program evaluation, revision and implementation of all rules and policies.
Execute special events and other initiatives with the intramural program.
Work with campus partners to grow intramural presence on campus.
Assist with sport club trainings and officer meetings.
Attend club sport events and perform practice check-ins.
One (1) year of experience as an undergraduate intramural staff member.
Experience as an official either within Intramural Sports or in high school sports.
Experience with NIRSA regional & national events (conferences, tournaments, etc.)

Graduate Assistant of Outdoor Adventure (2 positions)
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventure, these two (2) positions will be responsible for a specific area of programmatic focus in concert with a general set of duties based on experience, training, and ability.
The Field Lead will primarily focus on the management of the tripping program, Outdoor Adventure clinics, the Buc Bikes program, and the University Woods Trail System. The House Lead will primarily focus on the management of the Basler Team Challenge and Aerial Adventure Course, the Indoor Climbing Wall, and the Outdoor Adventure and Rental Center.
Field Lead Role
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of outdoor staff including Tripping Staff, Outdoor Instructors, and Bike Attendants.
Manage tripping, Buc Bike, instructional, and trail facilities and equipment (marketing, display, demo, maintenance, cleaning and repair, etc.)
Assist marketing team with necessary materials and production of elements to promote Outdoor Adventure events.
Develop and implement a campaign to expand and develop a broader reaching and more robust tripping program.
Assist with design and implementation of day and overnight trips.
Assist with design and implementation of instructional clinics.
Collaborate with campus-based members to schedule and deliver special events and reservations.
Assist with maintaining point of sale system (Fusion) for trips, clinics, and the Buc Bikes program.
Assist with program delivery of day and overnight trips, clinics, biking, group facilitation events, and other Outdoor Adventure Events.
Assist in the direction and maintenance of the University Woods trail system.
Assist with in-service trainings including American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid.
Assist in monitoring program spending and expenses.
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of outdoor staff including Climbing Wall Staff, Challenge Course Facilitators, and Outdoor Adventure and Rental Center attendants.
Manage challenge course, climbing wall, and rental center facilities and equipment (marketing, display, demo, maintenance, cleaning and repair, etc.)
Assist marketing team with necessary materials and production of elements to promote Outdoor Adventure events.
Develop and implement a campaign to expand facility use by campus based and community members.
Collaborate with campus based and community members to schedule and deliver special events and reservations.
Assist with maintaining point of sale system (Fusion) for the rental center.
Assist with program delivery at the challenge course, climbing wall, rental center, group facilitation events, and other Outdoor Adventure Events.
Assist with in-service trainings including American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid.
Assist in monitoring program spending and expenses.
Experience driving a 15-passenger van with trailer
A minimum of one (1) year of experience as undergraduate outdoor program staff with experience in outdoor adventure programming including, but not limited to: high-ropes challenge course with aerial and high adventure experience, climbing wall (top-rope & sport lead), and customer service experience for booking groups (House Lead)
A minimum of one (1) year of experience as undergraduate outdoor program staff with experience in outdoor adventure programming including, but not limited to: trip design & leadership, bike maintenance & instruction, and general trail upkeep & maintenance (Field Lead)

Reporting to the Coordinator of Fitness & Wellness, the Graduate Assistant of Fitness will assist with the development, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of Campus Recreation programs pertaining to group fitness, personal training, and nutritional wellness programs.
Job Duties
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of group fitness instructors and personal trainers.
Assist with in-service trainings including American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid.
Assist in monitoring program spending and expenses.
Track personal training revenue, trainer-client ratios, and personal training client session redemption.
Input class schedules, program offerings, and special events in online scheduling software (InnoSoft Fusion).
Teach group fitness classes or personal train in a one-on-one or small group setting.
Assist marketing team with necessary materials and production of elements to promote fitness events.
Participate in budget creation and payroll projection for fitness and wellness staff.
Assist with implementation and program delivery of fitness events and seminars.
Collaborate with campus-based members to schedule and deliver special events and reservations.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in fitness and wellness programming that includes teaching group fitness or personal training.
A certification in a group fitness format or personal training from a nationally accredited certifying agency.
