We are about to embark on the design phase of a $17 million expansion and renovation project set for completion in 2026. You will have a direct impact on areas relating to fitness equipment and spaces as well as other aspects of the project.
Mentor and guide a pride of personal trainers and group fitness instructors.
Support a Registered Dietitian in the Assistant Director position.
Manage all of our fitness equipment and layouts in the Morris Recreation Center.
Inspire people through fitness events, initiatives, and challenges.
Work from home one to two days a week depending on the season.

Note: This position is listed as two different positions within one posting because we want to get a wide variety of candidates with varying experiences to make the best business decision possible based on candidates' experiences. We would only hire an Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellbeing or a Coordinator of Fitness. Candidates will be evaluated along similar experience and qualification ranges.

POSITION SUMMARIES
The Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellbeing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive Fitness program as well as providing support to the Nutrition program. This position oversees a Registered Dietitian and reports to the Associate Director
The Coordinator of Fitness is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive Fitness program for students, faculty, and staff of A&M-Commerce, and members of Campus Recreation. This position reports to the Associate Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF EITHER POSITION
Directly oversee the Group Fitness and Personal Training programs to maintain a campus-wide investment in fitness and wellbeing.
Plan, implement, facilitate, promote, and evaluate fitness events, awareness weeks, fitness competitions, and educational workshops that meet the changing needs of various special populations, non-traditional students, residential students, faculty/staff, and community members
Recruit (Handshake), hire, train, schedule (SubItUp), develop, supervise, process payroll for (Workday), and evaluate group fitness instructors, personal trainers, Registered Dietitian, and support staff
Assist in the development, enhancement, and implementation of long-term and short-term goals using statistical data
Project and fiscally maintain budgets related to program areas
Directly oversee the inventory, selection, layout, replacement, and maintenance of all free weight, cardio, selectorize, fitness, and program equipment
Utilize Fusion for group fitness, event, and personal training registrations
Establish and oversee risk management policies for the fitness and nutrition programs
Assist with facility reservations related to fitness and nutrition programs
Assist the marketing program with promoting and marketing fitness and nutrition programs
Teach multiple group exercise formats and deliver personal training services as needed
Serve on the Campus Wellness Committee
GENERAL DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with other Campus Recreation program areas as well as campus departments

This job description shall include but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
Student workers (estimated between 15-20) including group fitness instructors, personal trainers, and student support staff. The AD position will oversee a Registered Dietitian.
These are the minimum qualifications to be considered.
Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellbeing:
Salary Range: $50-$55k Annually
Education: Bachelor’s degree in health-related, business, recreation, sports management/administration, or related field.
Experience: Three years of combined, related experience that can include full-time, part-time, and graduate assistantship in fitness programming.
Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirements.
Hold a master’s degree and have one year of experience then you meet minimum qualifications
Licensing/Professional Certifications:
Current Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer Certification recognized by NCCA (ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, ACE, AFAA, NASM, NCCPT or other meeting same criteria) and ability to obtain the other certification you don’t have within 90 days of employment. Must maintain current and future certifications.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Nice If You Had Skills and Experience for Assistant Director
Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Physiology Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration or related field
Experience supervising personnel
Experience managing a fitness or wellbeing/wellness program
Hold multiple fitness certifications
