UNT Recreational Sports is looking to hire six graduate assistants for Fall 2024. The available positions include: Aquatics (1), Esports (1), Fitness (1), Marketing (1), Outdoor Pursuits (1) and Sport Clubs (1). The stipend for a first year graduate assistant is $1,424 per month and $1,675 for the second year. We offer an out of state tuition waiver and the potential to have three to six hours of in state tuition covered. Aquatics
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate requests for equipment usage, and pool space with the Assistant Director of Aquatics and the Director of Operations.
Assist with payroll, scheduling, and supervising lifeguards
Assist with the development and evaluation of policies and procedures
Conduct various meetings with lifeguards and participants, i.e., in-service training and learn to swim program.
Assist in monitoring chemical and water quality and facility compliance to ensure Texas Health Department standards are met.
Assist with the evaluation of programs and staff and compile monthly, semester and annual reports to include participation statistics, number of accidents and incidents.
Graduate Assistant must work at least 20 hours per week with Recreational Sports
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field.
Current American Red Cross lifeguard certification. Preferred certifications include: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Instructor, and CPO/AFO.
Experience or general knowledge in supervising lifeguards, training lifeguards, or related area of recreation.
Acceptance and admittance into the University of North Texas graduate school as a full-time (9 hours or more) graduate student.
Terms of Appointment: August 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025. The start date is flexible. This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of a second-year appointment.

Esports
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Assist with the daily operations of the varsity esports program, including practices, matches, team meetings, and community engagement on our public discord channel.
Assist with major events and tournaments as needed.
Develop and implement a volunteer coach training program that focuses on communication, conflict resolution, practice organization, etc.
Assist in the evaluation of volunteer coaches, tryouts for the program, and the hiring process for student program managers.
Assist in the recruitment and development of volunteer coaches and players. This includes written evaluations and in-person meetings.
Collect and analyze various metrics from team practices and competitions to help drive decision making and policy creation.
Assist with development of policies and procedures for the varsity esports program.
Resolve conflict between players, coaches and staff.
Work at least 20 hours per week with the Varsity Esports Program.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Health Promotion or related field.
Experience or general knowledge in esports competition, management, supervising employees, training employees, or related area of esports.
Experience in managing a team or personal Discord channel.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills.

Fitness
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate fitness programs, including advertisement, registration, scheduling, and program evaluation.
Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating performance of ~60 student staff members including: Weight Room Supervisors, Frisco Fitness Staff, Group Fitness Instructors, and Personal Trainers.
Assist with creating and managing schedules for Weight Room Supervisors, Frisco Fitness Staff, Group Fitness Instructors, and Personal Trainers.
Conduct monthly staff meetings and CPR/AED certification trainings.
Ensure accuracy of employees’ reported time by cross-checking schedules with payroll.
Compile statistics for the fitness program each week and report on participation and accident and incident data in a semester and annual report.
Coordinate the promotion and marketing of the Fitness program which includes staffing tables and producing/posting content regularly on the fitness Instagram account.
Ensure the fitness areas are clean, safe, and in proper working order.
Attend and assist with leading all Recreational Sports and fitness events and trainings.
Work at least 20 hours per week with the Fitness Program.
Teach group fitness classes or personal train in a one-on-one or small group setting.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Recreation, Kinesiology or related field.
Experience or general knowledge in biomechanics, exercise physiology, employee supervision, training employees, sports administration, or related area of recreation.
Acceptance and admittance into the University of North Texas Graduate School, as a full time (9 hours or more) graduate student.
Experience in teaching multiple group exercise formats and/or conducting personal training sessions.
Holds a Personal Training and/or Group Fitness certification(s) from one or more of the following organizations: ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA, CI or NETA.

Marketing
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in the administration of the day-to-day operation of the marketing department including managing and developing student staff, designing print and digital marketing material, developing and maintaining the department website and social media sites, and assessing engagement through surveys, reports, and analytics.
Assisting with departmental outreach efforts for Rec Sports programs and events each semester including scheduling, training, and staffing marketing tables, speaking opportunities, and social media engagement.
Assisting with developing relationships and generating engagement with university departments, faculty, and staff through meetings, presentations, promotions, and collaboration.
Attending a wide variety of programs and special events for photos, video, and social media use.
Assessing, reporting, and recommending opportunities for growth and innovation within our marketing strategies.
Assisting with a variety of special events and projects for the department, division, and university.
Qualifications:
Applicants with a thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, web coding, and photo/video capture and editing (or some combination of the above) are highly desired.
Prior experience in marketing, promotions, web development, and/or graphic design.
Prior experience working in collegiate recreation.

Outdoor Pursuits
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the organization and administration of the Outdoor Pursuits Program.
Develop, organize, schedule, lead, and evaluate outdoor program, including trips, clinics, and meetings.
Assist with managing climbing wall operations.
Supervise/oversee the equipment rental program and the Outdoor Pursuits Center.
Assist with the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of equipment including rental and trip equipment.
Assist with a comprehensive risk management program for outdoor recreation facilities and programs including policies and procedures for the climbing wall, wilderness trips and proper usage of outdoor equipment.
Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate part time outdoor student staff employees.
Assist the Assistant Director with the development and administration of the Outdoor Pursuits budget.
Supervise and regularly evaluate the outdoor recreation revenue generation.
Assist with research and evaluation of programs and staff. Compiling data and reporting information.
Update student employee performance evaluations. Assist with semesterly evaluations.
Develop surveys for evaluation of programs and services. Develop methods to distribute surveys to students, faculty, and staff. Compile data. Develop method to report results.
Compile statistics for the activities each week and report on fluctuations in attendance.
Compile inventory at beginning and end of each semester and report on inventory at beginning and end of each semester.
Assist with the risk management of the program, completing a safety audit, and reporting results.
Complete a semester and annual report to include participation/sales statistics, number of accidents and incidents.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Outdoor Education, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, or related field
Experience or general knowledge in facility management, supervising employees, training employees

Ability to lead and assist with outdoor trips
Ability to lift/move equipment and materials associated with the position, and climb to heights of 45 feet

Sport Clubs
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Assist with the daily operations of the Sport Club program, including advising the clubs in planning, budgeting and scheduling of their activities and competitions.
Oversee the Sport Club Executive Board and the Sport Club Program Assistants.
Develop leadership training and orientation sessions for club leaders.
Assist clubs with their travel and process all travel paperwork.
Organize, schedule and direct the sport club meetings.
Orient existing clubs and new clubs with the University policies and procedures.
Assist clubs with running home competitions, tournaments, and events.
Preparing and maintaining facilities for events and competitions.
Promote and market the Sport Club program.
Assist with the Risk Management of the program.
Complete the semester and annual report.
