Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
Campus Recreation and Wellness provides a comprehensive co-curricular experience for Fayetteville State University. Housed in the Division of Student Affairs, Campus Intramurals and Recreational Sports is committed to providing programming to enhance the student experience while encouraging healthy habits. In addition, Campus Intramural and Recreation Sports and Wellness serve the university community by providing programs to support an active lifestyle on the campus. This unit supports programming in competitive sports, fitness, aquatics, and informal recreation.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation and Intramurals, This Student Service Specialist will provide leadership for a comprehensive Aquatic program designed for 7,000 students to expand their knowledge of and participation in Aquatic activities, which foster healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership. The Student Service Specialist supervises and supports student staff. Additionally, the Student Service Specialist helps develop and maintain Aquatic budgets and guides revenue generation to meet operations. Moreover, the Specialist will help direct the Aquatic Program and the fiscal, facility, and programmatic operation of Aquatics. The Student Service Specialist is responsible for helping assess, design, evaluate, and implement Aquatic programs that will provide students, faculty, and staff the opportunities to participate and compete in activities that will meet their needs and interests.
Aquatic Center Management
Develop and implement Aquatic programming and services that supplement the mission of Fayetteville State University.
This position is responsible for all aspects of hiring, training, mentoring, and terminating aquatics employees, including lifeguards, instructors, and office staff, as needed.
Oversight and direction of aquatics admin and student/part-time staff, including lifeguards, instructors, and desk workers. Responsible for scheduling, maintenance, and upkeep of all aquatic facilities and pools, including Bronco Aquatics Center. Oversee aquatic supply purchases following university purchasing guidelines and maintain inventory needed for operations. Develops and implements policies and procedures that ensure the safety of all patrons at all pools.
Monitors and inspects pool areas to ensure safety; works with director and contracted maintenance companies to maintain pools and equipment. This position will create policies to keep participants safe, teach them how to respond to emergencies, and train staff to respond. This position must be able to make decisions and complete proper documentation during emergencies, including accidents and incidents. This position is responsible for ensuring all safety measures are in place, staff are trained to respond to accidents and incidents, and appropriate documentation is completed. Responsible for scheduling and operating swim lessons, swim school, and other events in either aquatic facility. Conduct certifications for Lifeguards and Instructors. Manage daily checks of the facility and maintain water chemical levels. Maintenance active certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, and CPO. Scheduling in-service training for Lifeguards, Instructors, and Desk workers.
Develop policies and procedures to help mitigate liability and risk management within all recreation facilities.
Other Duties Assigned
Assists with special event programming including, but not limited to, REC pre-orientation program, new student orientation, and occasional late-night programming in conjunction with the Campus Recreation professional staff. Collaborate with Residence Life & Housing to promote first-year student programming on The Forest initiative to encourage community and connection. Develop relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the Fayetteville State community. Fosters an inclusive environment that is welcoming to all campus community members.
