The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, planning, and coordination of aquatic programs and activities. This role includes managing staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining the overall quality of the aquatic facility. This role requires comprehensive leadership skills, risk management and facility management, planning and fostering collaborative relationships on campus. This position provides student development that reinforces and enhances classroom and academic learning through applying employee-related skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision (40%)
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff including program assistants, aquatics supervisors, and lifeguards.
Schedule all aquatics staff for the Kaplan Center Natatorium and Piney Lake.
Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing feedback and evaluations.
Administration (30%)
Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional manner.
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patrons.
Instruct American Red Cross Safety Courses for the department and community.
Directly supervise student payroll.
Prepare reports on program outcomes and facility usage.
Assist in budget preparation and monitor expenses.
Operations (20%)
Assist with the daily operations of the Kaplan Center Natatorium and Piney Lake.
Promote aquatic programs and services to increase participation and revenue.
Manage inventory for departmental needs, including pool chemicals, cleaning supplies, patron equipment, etc.
Works with the Assistant Director to coordinate and host special events for the UNCG community and groups external to UNCG.
Other (10%)
Serve on department and division committees.
Uphold and execute the department and university mission and values.
Continually assess policies and procedures for the natatorium.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in aquatics facility management and programming
Basic Lifeguard Certification from a national accredited aquatics agency
Knowledge in planning, organizing, and implementing aquatics programs
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Strong commitment to the development of students to provide leadership training, support academic success, and professional development
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Certified Waterfront Lifeguard or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Certified Instructor for First Aid, CPR, AED for the Professional Rescuer or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
Knowledge of pool mechanical systems, pump rooms, and water chemistry
