JOB DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director of Fitness is responsible for the day-to-day operation and staff supervision of a comprehensive Fitness program that consists of Group Fitness, Personal Training, Small Group Training, Fitness Zone management, Fitness Assessments, Fit for Hire, Instructor and Trainer Courses, and nutrition services. The Assistant Director will be responsible for program development, long-range planning and assessment, budget, risk management, and maintaining accurate records of participation. This position reports to the Associate Director. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours required.
Job Duties: Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of staff and students; provides guidance, and is responsible for professional development and training for staff.
Provides leadership and direction for fitness programs, manages Fitness Zone within CRWC, schedules and evaluates fitness programs including group fitness classes, nutrition services, personal and group personal training, Fit4Hire, instructor training, non-academic Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor classes, special programs and events.
Provide supervision of the Fitness Program Manager and student staff.
Collaborates with marketing team to develop and execute an ongoing marketing and promotional plan for all programs.
Oversees the scheduling, supervision, and management of fitness programs for multiple activities within and outside of the CRWC.
Ensures program compliance with university policies and procedures, and local and state regulations.
Monitors expenses and revenue goals, identifies opportunities for fundraising, sponsorship, and grants to support programs and events.
Develops and implements long range strategic plans for assessment of student development, learning outcomes, evaluations of programs, services, and staff.
Maintains records and creates various reports including semi-annual and annual reports.
Collaborates with campus partners and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success
Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for programs, implement departmental emergency action plan, inspect campus program areas and equipment.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum requirements are at least three years of experience working in a leadership or supervisory capacity with an emphasis on staff development, fiscal management, fitness program implementation, and management. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated leadership ability are required.
SKILLS & CERTIFICATIONS:Must have valid Personal Training certification and Group Fitness Instructor certification through AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, or NASM, or a nationally accredited organization; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and First Aid certifications; and must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification within first year of employment.
