Frequent evenings and weekends depending upon activities and assignments. Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours. What we want
The Personal and Small Group Training Coordinator (Student Development Specialist II) is responsible for managing our Personal Training and Small Group Training Programs. They are responsible for client acquisition, assigning personal trainers to clientele, and small group training coaches to formats/program offerings. Daily management of personal and small group training records and databases also falls under this position’s purview. The Personal and Small Group Training Coordinator is responsible for the creation, development, and implementation of new offerings for the Personal and Small Group Training programs. They are also charged with optimizing the programming and utilization of the Personal and Small Group Training Suite facility. They are responsible for the hiring, training, evaluating, and supervision of both Personal Trainers, and Small Group Training Coaches. The Student Development Specialist II assists with the training and education of Strength & Conditioning area student and part-time staff members, and coordinates clinics, seminars, and workshops for area staff and Rec Center members. Coordination and Instruction of Personal Training Certification Prep Course. Will potentially personal train clients and lead small group training sessions as warranted. Prepares and administers the wages, equipment, and supplies budget for personal training and small group training programs. Assists with risk management, equipment and facility preventative maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep.

Position Details: Employee will supervise (20) Personal Trainers and (8-10) Small Group Training Coaches. The position requires frequent weekend and evening hours for events, outreach, fundraising, and stewardship activities. May require occasional physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, moving, and/or similar activities.

Responsibilities:
Program Coordination - Responsible for managing our Personal Training and Small Group Training Programs. Accountable for client and participant acquisition, assigning/pairing personal trainers to clientele, and small group training coaches to formats/program offerings. Daily management of personal and small group training records and databases, client training file and exercise program design audits.
Training and Education - Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating of both Personal Trainers, and Small Group Training Coaches. Will assist with portions of the training and education of Strength & Conditioning area student and part-time staff members. Organize and implement personal and small group training staff in-services, meetings, and continuing education opportunities. Provides supplemental education to Strength & Conditioning attendants and head attendants. Coordination and Instruction of Personal Training Certification Prep Course.
Creation and Implementation - Creation, development, and implementation of new offerings for the Personal Training and Small Group Training programs. Develops and coordinates clinics, seminars, and workshops for area staff, Strength & Conditioning area users, and Rec Center members. Coordinate advertising and promotional needs for said programs with the Marketing staff and assist as necessary.
Facility Coordination and Upkeep - Responsible for enhancing the scheduling and utilization of the Personal and Small Group Training Suite. Carry out policies and procedures for Personal and Small Group Training Suite usage and security. Ensure proper and safe utilization of equipment. Assists with equipment and facility preventative maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep.
Budget Administration - Prepares and administers the wages, equipment, and supplies budget for personal training and small group training programs. Processes Personal Training and Small Group Training staff payroll.
Departmental Mission and OtherDuties - Maintain a positive relationship with other departments and personnel that will assist in the development, funding, promotions, and/or public relations of the department. Serve on national, university, divisional, and departmental committees as needed. Assist in establishing long and short term goals of the department. Attend local, state and national workshops and conferences. Host and present at various recreational sports workshops. Interact with students, faculty and staff for the benefit of carrying out the mission of the department. Perform other related duties as necessary and appropriate for the position as assigned by Supervisor or Executive Director.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
One year of experience in student affairs work or related specialty area with a bachelor’s degree
General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students
Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours such as nights and weekends
Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word and Access
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Minimum of one personal training or strength and conditioning certification from a nationally accredited certification organization such as NSCA, NASM, ACSM, or ACE.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health and kinesiology, exercise physiology, sport management, physical education or related field
Full time, professional experience working in collegiate/university Recreational Sports/Campus Recreation supervising strength and conditioning, personal training, and small group training staff in a large multi-faceted university recreational sports strength and conditioning facility
Two or more years supervising personal training and small group training staff in a large multi-faceted university recreational sports facility
Two or more years of personal training experience with a multitude and wide range of clientele
Experience with designing, implementing, and coordinating small group training programs
Experience with instruction of personal training certification preparatory courses
Experience presenting and speaking in both large and small group settings
Budget preparation and administration experience
