This position manages the operation of the Falcon Outdoor Adventures program, including the daily operation of the equipment rental center, climbing wall, bouldering wall, bike shop, trips program, and single-day clinic or events. This position is responsible for coordinating external rentals with community groups such as birthday parties, school outings, church gatherings, and team-building events taking place in Falcon Outdoor Adventures. This position is also the coordinator of the Learn-to-Climb youth climbing program. This position manages the enforcement of policies, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and risk management associated with Falcon Outdoor Adventures. This position will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student staff.
Oversee operations related to the indoor climbing wall including routine maintenance, equipment repair/replacement, route setting, and general policy enforcement
Supervise business operations of the equipment rental center including financial management, cash-handling procedures, equipment repair/replacement, and inventory management
Implement risk management procedures and ensures adherence to institution and divisional policies
Manages applicable software systems for program registration, equipment inventory, and participation data
Coordinates logistics for single-day, weekend, and week-long student-led trips climbing, hiking, paddling, and camping which includes identifying site locations, obtaining permits, managing transportation, and minimizing risk
Coordinates youth Learn-to-Climb program for elementary school aged children to teach the sport of climbing
Develop student staff into trip leaders, bike mechanics, climbing wall instructors, and route setters
Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, assessment data, participation survey, and program manual
May assist with development and audit the unit budget to purchase equipment, software, technology, and programs to better manage equipment and programs
Perform other duties, as assigned
The typical work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 8AM-4:30PM. Due to the nature of this position, afternoon, evening, and some weekend hours may be required to support program array.
This position is a 10-month with June and July off-contract. There is potential to add hours during June and July depending on external reservations, youth camps, and use of climbing wall/rental center by students or community members.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree in recreation management, outdoor education, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field
A minimum of 3 years’ experience, including as student employee, supervising operations at a climbing gym, rental center, or managing other outdoor activities
Practical experience leading a wide variety of outdoor trips such as paddling, camping, hiking, and climbing
Strong customer service and communication skills (both written and verbal) to be able to work with a wide range of users including both internal and external to the University
Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain multiple projects at any given time
CPR/Wilderness First Aid certified
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in recreation management, outdoor education, exercise science, kinesiology, or related field
Working knowledge of InnoSoft Fusion, or equivalent, used for program registration and equipment inventory
Experience hiring, training, and evaluating staff performing a wide range of duties
Experience with budget development, management, and fiscal reporting
Experience managing equipment rental, maintenance, inventory and repair program
Experience facilitating team building workshops to a variety of demographics
Wilderness First Responder certified or ability to become certified in three months
PCIA Top Rope Climbing Instructor certified or equivalent
PCIA Single Pitch Instructor certified or equivalent
