The Coordinator of Aquatics & Member Services is responsible for the daily management of the aquatics facility and programming and shared responsibility for other facility operations. This position ensures safe and effective program delivery to the University community that includes swim lessons, open recreation, and special events programming. This position facilitates risk management training and ensures Campus Recreation meets University, local, state, and national requirements. This position also oversees member services.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Aquatics
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the seasonal outdoor pool area that includes a heated leisure pool (beach-type entry, fountains, water tunnel, current channel, bubble jet benches, 3-lap lanes), 2-tier hot tub, 2 basketball courts, event pavilion, and a sunbathing area.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all student employees for areas of responsibility (head guards, lifeguards, and safety instructors) in compliance with departmental and university regulations.
Directly supervise student payroll for assigned areas, in compliance with departmental and university regulations.
Lead monthly Lifeguard in-services and ensure aquatics staff training is within local and state compliance for operation.
Oversee pool water testing, administering chemicals to maintain proper pool levels, chemical supply ordering, and proper storage of chemicals.
Coordinate all Aquatic programming, including a comprehensive adult and child swim lesson program, and student events.
Oversee the Aquatics program budget and purchase aquatic equipment and supplies.
Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to aquatics and facility operations.
Risk Management
Assist with risk management for the department by supervising safety instructors and managing the CPR class schedule.
Evaluate and reduce risk in the department as well as ensuring student staff certifications and trainings are up to date.
Serves as a liaison for Campus Recreation and assists external and internal partners with the coordination and supervision of the preventative maintenance plan for all aquatics equipment associated with the Morris Recreation Center.
Member Services
Responsible for non-student member outreach and appreciation to increase retention.
Manage locker sales and refreshing expired lockers.
Review point of sale efficiency and provide alternatives.
Oversee towel service including purchasing and upkeep.
Assist in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term goals for the department of Campus Recreation.
Must be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment the following certifications provided by Campus Recreation: Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, and CPR/AED/FA Instructor.
Stay up to date on best practices in aquatics and member services through involvement in NIRSA and related organizations trainings, certifications and/or conferences.
Please note that we are not hiring for both a Coordinator of Aquatics & Member Services and a Pool Supervisor. These positions are posted together and candidates apply for both. Depending on the candidates preference and strengths, they will move forward with one. At the end of the process we will hire one candidate to fulfill one of the two positions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (ex: high school diploma and four years of experience or Associates and two years of experience may substitute degree).
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One year of combined, related experience in aquatics management in a collegiate, community, or private programming setting (part time work, graduate assistantships and internships are acceptable and count as half time).
Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum experience requirements
