The Pool Supervisor is responsible for the daily management of the aquatics facility. This position ensures safe and effective program delivery to the University community that includes swim lessons and open swimming.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Great OutRoars (seasonal outdoor pool area), that includes a heated leisure pool (beach-type entry, fountains, water tunnel, current channel, bubble jet benches, 3-lap lanes), 2-tier hot tub, 2 basketball courts, event pavilion, and a sunbathing area.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate all student employees for areas of responsibility (head guards, lifeguards, and safety instructors) in compliance with departmental and university regulations.
Directly supervise student payroll for assigned areas, in compliance with departmental and university regulations.
Lead monthly Lifeguard in-services and ensures aquatics staff training is within local and state compliance for operation.
Oversee pool water testing, administering chemicals to maintain proper pool levels, chemical supply ordering, and proper storage of chemicals.
Coordinate a comprehensive adult and child swim lesson program.
Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to aquatics operations.
Evaluate and reduce risk in the aquatics area as well as ensuring student staff certifications and trainings are up to date.
Serve as a liaison for Campus Recreation and assists external and internal partners with the coordination and supervision of the preventative maintenance plan for all aquatics equipment associated with the Morris Recreation Center.
Assist in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term goals for the department of Campus Recreation.
Must be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment the following certifications provided by Campus Recreation: Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor and CPR/AED/FA Instructor.
Stays up to date on best practices in aquatics operations through involvement in NIRSA and related organizations trainings, certifications and/or conferences.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Supervises 20-25 student lifeguards and 5-10 Basic Water Safety Instructors

Work 40 hours/week during the months of June, July, and August
Work 14 hours/week during the other 9 months.

Please note that we are not hiring for both a Coordinator of Aquatics & Member Services and a Pool Supervisor. These positions are posted together and candidates apply for both. Depending on the candidates preference and strengths, they will move forward with one. At the end of the process we will hire one candidate to fulfill one of the two positions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One year of experience in aquatic and/or facility management in a collegiate, community, or private programming setting (part time work, graduate assistantships, and internships are acceptable).
