Having primary responsibilities in leading an Intramural Sports program that includes 40 leagues, tournaments, and events annually; student staff that includes approximately 30 Sport Programs Staff and 150+ officials; with additional duties supporting and leading the Sport Club program, Youth Summer Sports Camp, and UREC Outdoor Field Complexes. This individual is critical in helping deliver outstanding competitive and leisure programs to the Red Raider campus community. Specific duties will be tailored around the strengths of the person hired and designed to help them grow professionally.
Position Description:
Manages a subunit within a department. Plans, organizes, and develops goals and procedures. Represents the subunit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises undergraduate student staff. In this leadership role a non-traditional work schedule will be provided during “in-season” competition. This will include evening and weekend leadership and engagement with student staff and participants.
Major/Essential Functions:
Work as a member of the Sport Program team which includes an Associate Director and two Program Managers to deliver quality sport programs for the Texas Tech community.
Assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive Intramural Sports and Special Event program.
Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate student sport officials for selected sports.
Interview, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate Sport Programs student staff.
Review policies, procedures, and rules for various sports and venues for Intramural and Sport Club programs
Develop and work collaboratively with on- and off-campus partners to provide specialized programming to include but not limited to: University Student Housing, International Affairs, Faculty & Staff Programming, Unified Sports, Fraternity & Sorority Life
Assist with the marketing, development, staffing, organization, and programming of Youth Summer Sports Camp
Assist with the supervision and leadership of the Sport Club program including evening and weekend competitions.
Assist with semester department events such as: Red Raider Orientation, Raider Welcome, Random Acts of Kindness Week, Texas Tech Arbor Day, etc.
Assist with maintenance and management of UREC Outdoor Field Complexes
Serve on campus committees and represent University Recreation in campus events. Form relationships with other departments on campus to help maintain a campus presence for the department.
Anticipated Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday, combination of two days, 8am-5pm/11am-8pm
Friday, 8am-5pm
Morning, evening, and weekend work required based upon training and competition schedule
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree with two years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal six years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
One-year professional program experience in the field of campus or community recreation with responsibilities in areas such as league/tournament and camps supervision and leadership
Two-years of more experience preferred
Advanced officiating experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification within one year
Leadership and supervisory experience
Work as part of and lead a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues
