Purpose:
This position is responsible for the administration and management of Campus Recreation’s Fitness Program. This includes but is not limited to: program development, staff hiring, training, and supervision of student and part-time employees, education delivery to students, staff, and Rec Center members. Major programming responsibilities include group exercise, personal training, wellness initiatives, special events, and educational workshops for students, staff, and Rec Center members. The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness will report directly to the Associate Director of Programs and Communication for the Department of Campus Recreation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness must be able to teach and instruct a variety of fitness classes and formats.
The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness must possess strong organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and abstract problem solving skills are essential for success in the fitness programs.
The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness must have exemplary customer service skills with the ability and willingness to communicate with a wide variety of customers, colleagues, and students.
Practical experience in university health and wellness based facilities.
Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and ability to oversee multiple budgets.
The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness must possess a good working knowledge of software applications related to recreation programming.
Key Responsibilities 60% of Time the Position Must:
Staff Supervision
Directly responsible for the hiring, scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and day-to-day supervision of approximately fifteen (15) group fitness instructors and eight (8) Personal Trainers.
Create and monitor the When to Work (W2W) schedule, review employee shift trades, and approve employee time off requests. Review the W2W schedule weekly to ensure staff coverage of all programs including group fitness classes, workshops, and special events.
Approve weekly payroll for Fitness staff and monitor reported time for accuracy.
Staff Development
Develop, coordinate, and lead student development opportunities that focus on the growth and development of student employability skillsets.
Train, coach, and evaluate the Fitness team on methods to improve the customer experience and identify opportunities to improve the delivery of our customer service.
Train, coach, and evaluate the Fitness team on methods and best practices of instructing group fitness classes providing a variety of fitness class formats.
Develop and coordinate staff appreciation initiatives in order to retain student employees and build team morale.
Fiscal Management
Budget, track, and reconcile all expenses related to the Fitness Program on a monthly basis.
Assist in the annual budgeting process for Campus Recreation. This includes developing, forecasting, and reporting on revenues and expenses related to your administrative area.
Total budgetary oversight is $60,000 within a $3 million budget.
Risk Management
Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for individuals who participate in Campus Recreation facilities, programs, and services as well as staff members who deliver these student-centered experiences.
Review and analyze accident and incident reports for concerning patterns, determine and implement solutions that impact multiple work teams within the department to remedy and/or prevent reoccurrence.
Provide ongoing risk management training for the Fitness staff in order to minimize risk, reduce loss, and ensure continuity in Departmental business practices across all areas.
Responsible for ensuring that all student staff members are CPR/First Aid/AED Certified and certifications are on-file and up to date.
Conduct outdoor space inspections, risk management audits, and monitor equipment inventory to minimize loss.
Secondary Responsibilities 35% of Time the Position Must:
Group Exercise
Directly oversee the day-to-day operations of the Group Fitness Program, including scheduling of classes, instructors, and on-going training to incorporate current fitness trends, best practices, and dynamic class delivery.
Plan and implement group exercise offerings intended to meet guidelines set by the supervisor on program mix, participation objectives, and financial parameters.
Coordinate the development and implementation of on-site instructional workshops and certifications related to fitness to support the ongoing professional development of fitness instructors.
Operate, monitor, and manage a variety of software applications relevant to the Fitness Program including, but not limited to: Innosoft Fusion Recreation Management Software, Connect 2 Concepts (C2C), Qualtrics, When to Work, Wordpress, and Handshake.
Ensure the highest possible level of customer service in order to provide exceptional experiences.
Create and maintain outreach opportunities within the campus community to promote the Fitness Program.
Maintain and revise operation and policy manuals for all the Fitness Program; including group exercise and personal training..
Work closely with other departmental staff to schedule facilities and avoid conflicts in facilities used by group fitness and personal training program areas.
Research and recommend appropriate equipment purchases for continued operations and growth of the Fitness Program.
Inventory and maintain all fitness equipment accessories and supplies to ensure quality, safety and security.
Personal Training
Directly oversee the day-to-day operations of the Personal Training Program, including scheduling of clients, personal trainers, and on-going staff training to ensure patron safety and client satisfaction.
Train, coach, and evaluate the Personal Training staff on methods and best practices to provide safe instruction while achieving client’s personal fitness goals.
Develop and implement recordkeeping practices and procedures to ensure client confidentiality within the Personal Training Program.
Create and maintain outreach opportunities within the campus community to promote the Personal Training Program.
Wellness Initiatives
Serve as the departmental liaison to Wellness Services and an active participant as a Wellness Champion on campus.
Regularly collaborate with Wellness Services to deliver wellness programming such as Walk Well, Be Well Breaks, Mindful Movement, and other wellness initiatives.
Collaborate with Wellness Services to assess wellness initiatives and their impact on students living a more healthy, active lifestyle.
Serve as the department liaison to Housing and Residence Life’s Living Learning Program and the BroncoFIT Living Learning Community to promote wellness initiatives and engage students living on campus in wellness related activities.
Create and maintain outreach opportunities within the campus community to promote wellness programs and initiatives.
Other Duties 5% of Time the Position must:
In conjunction with the Campus Recreation professional staff; participate, lead, and/or coordinate Departmental initiatives including Fall Orientation, RecFest, etc.
Provide support and direction for the Summer Orientation program including direct oversight of the resource fairs and support other orientation programming.
Provide Departmental and Divisional support by participating in various hiring committees and Student Affairs events and initiatives. Attend professional conferences, workshops, and/or seminars to continue professional growth and development.
Serve on a Campus Recreation committee.
Work closely with other departmental staff to schedule facilities and avoid scheduling conflicts.
