The Assistant Director of Aquaticsis responsible forthe direction, planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of all aspects of the aquatics program. This position administers a diverse aquatics program, including open swim, instructional classes, certification/safety classes, aquatic fitness, swim lessons, pool rentals, and a variety of aquatics special event programming. The primary purpose is to develop, direct, and execute services and operational strategies that involve direct interactions with students and recreation members to enhance learning and wellness opportunities in a recreation environment.The position provides leadership and oversight to professional and student employees and is responsible for leading trainings, teaching certification classes, providing professional development opportunities, and maintaining and updating records, policies, and procedures. The Assistant Director of Aquaticsis directly responsible for maintaining a safe environment for Aquatics participants and provides risk management training and resources to student employees throughout Campus Recreation. The position is responsible fordeveloping a comprehensive Aquatics budget and tracking revenue and expenditures for Aquatics programs and services.The Assistant Director directly supervises and mentors the Aquatics Coordinator and oversees a team of 50 student employees. The position reports to the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations for Campus Recreation.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Exercise and Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
One year of professional experience working in aquatics program management. Two years of a graduate assistantship are the equivalent of one year of professional experience.
Exceptional organizational and customer service skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with large and diverse audiences in addition to one-on-one encounters.
Ability and willingness to collaborate effectively with a goal-oriented team.
Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Recreation, Exercise and Sports Science, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field. All degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
At least two years of professional experience in a Campus Recreation aquatics setting.
Direct administrative experience with related program administration in aquatics.
Demonstrated ability to supervise professional and student staff.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in risk management planning.
Demonstrated experience in fiscal management and budget creation.
Effective motivational leadership and supervision of student participants and staff.
Superior interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED Instructor Trainer Certification, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certification, Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification, Certified Pool Operator Certification, or ability to acquire within one year of hire.
