Union University is looking to hire 2 Graduate Assistants to oversee the Wellness Center or Intramural Sports. This position is based in Jackson, TN and does not allow for remote work. Descriptions of both positions can be found below. Thanks for your interest, and I hope to hear from you soon!
This is a 10-month position beginning July 15-May 15 or a 9-month position August 1-May 1.
Wellness Center
Oversee all aspects of performance management of student workers for the wellness and activities centers (ensuring workers are punctual, wearing uniforms, and meeting performance objectives).
Supervise the wellness and activities centers in the absence of the Director of Campus Recreation.
Provide administrative oversight of the department in the Director’s absence as it relates to the instruction and supervision of student workers and student members in their use and management of the wellness facilities on campus.
Serve as a coordinator to group fitness class programming through training with instructors, teaching fitness classes, and offering training for students.
Teach principles of both health and wellness to student workers and design/implement health and fitness plans/programs for students.
Train new student workers and teach them principles of health and wellness during monthly staff meetings and to newly hired individuals, as needed.
Implement and assist in oversight of initiatives with Wellness Center programming and resources, such as podcast episodes, physical resources, etc.
Assist with Club Sport programming (ultimate frisbee and indoor volleyball).
Intramural Sports
Teach students the tenets of sport participation, excellence, fitness, responsibility, and sports cognition.
Develop both the coordinators and referees in general job competence, communication, sports knowledge, injury management and prevention, and conflict resolution.
Communicate with undergraduate intramural coordinators concerning game times, rule distributions, and game outcomes.
Teach methodology for refereeing games to undergraduate student referees.
Teach student coordinators the beneficial effects of exercise and team sports, as well as instruct them concerning conflict resolution during competitive sporting events.
Supervise, schedule, lead, and develop the student intramural coordinators, intramural representatives, and officials.
Assist the Director for Campus Recreation in hiring and training officials.
Serve as an intermediary between the Director for Campus Recreation and the student body as a whole, gathering feedback and assisting in strategic planning.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree is required. Acceptance into a post-bachelor’s academic program at the University, as well as full-time course registration into the same program of study is also required.

Union University's Campus Recreation program oversees a fitness gym, the Wellness Center, a thriving 20+ sport intramural program, four club sport teams, all health and wellbeing initiatives, and outdoor recreation.
