The Sports Programs Coordinator will provide primary leadership and oversight for the Intramural Sports program, while also supporting the Sport Club program at the University of South Florida. This position will be responsible for the daily administration, staffing, training, scheduling, and evaluation of a robust Intramural Sports program that serves thousands of student participants each year. The coordinator will supervise approximately 50 student supervisors, 7 program assistants, and 20–50 officials per season, and will lead the recruitment and development of student officials through training and NIRSA-related opportunities.
The position will also advise and support the Sport Clubs Council and Student Officials Association. The Sport Club Council is a student-led board that allocates over $350,000 in Student Government funding and assists with administrative support to 45+ student organizations. Evening and weekend hours are expected for program supervision, staff training, and special events. The Student Officials Association provides professional opportunities to student officials beyond USF recreational programming and advances their knowledge of officiating and career opportunities through engagement with local community and statewide events.
Primary Responsibilities
Direct, manage, and grow the Intramural Sports program including team and individual/dual events, tournaments, special events, and leagues. Coordinate scheduling, registration, participant communication, and risk management procedures.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student staff including program assistants, supervisors, and officials. Develop and implement training programs and performance feedback systems for student officials to improve consistency, safety, and participant experience.
Advise the Student Officials Association (SOA) in its mission to support, educate, and develop student officials, and expand officiating opportunities through collaboration with local and regional partners including NIRSA extramural events.
Assist in marketing, outreach, and engagement strategies that promote Intramural Sports participation, especially among first-year students and underserved populations.
Provide secondary oversight and administrative support to Sport Clubs, including officer training, budget tracking, risk management education, travel coordination, and compliance with university policies.
Advise the Sport Club Council (SCC) in the review and allocation of interim and annual budgets, policy development, and the planning of sport club community-building initiatives.
Develop and maintain relationships with key campus partners including Student Government, Risk Management, Residence Life, and other student affairs departments to facilitate program success.
Assist with strategic planning, annual assessments, learning outcomes, and the continued evolution of Intramural Sports offerings to align with national trends and student interest.
Maintain, update, and implement training manuals, rulebooks, and risk management policies for all sport programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Recreation, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field strongly preferred.
Two years of professional experience in collegiate recreation, specifically with Intramural Sports program administration, including student staff supervision, program planning, and official development.
Experience with Sport Club administration is beneficial but not required.
