Texas Southern University Department of Campus Recreation is currently accepting applications for Graduate Assistants (GA) for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are seeking one Graduate Assistant for each of the following areas: Operations & Aquatics, Member Services & Engagement, and Recreational Sports & Programs. These assistantships are a 2-year commitment with performance evaluations at the end of each year.
Texas Southern University Campus Recreation:
Texas Southern University Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is dedicated to uphold its cultural values of Approachability, Passion, and Accountability in all we do. The Graduate Assistant (GA) program in the Department of Campus Recreation is designed to provide graduate students with hands on experience in student affairs, sports management, fitness and wellness, and recreation. This opportunity will help GA's gain critical leadership, management, and operational skills while pursuing a graduate degree. The program offers GAs the ability to apply classroom knowledge in a professional environment and prepare for careers in campus recreation or related fields.

The Operations & Aquatics Graduate Assistant supports the daily management and supervision of the Campus Recreation Center, facility reservations, risk management procedures, and aquatics operations. This position collaborates closely with professional staff and student employees to ensure safe and welcoming recreation spaces.
Graduate Assistant – Memberships & EngagementPosition Overview: The Memberships & Engagement Graduate Assistant focuses on customer service, outreach, membership sales, and student engagement. This position helps coordinate the front desk operations, promotions, and member experience initiatives.
Graduate Assistant – Recreational Sports & ProgramsPosition Overview: The Rec Sports & Programs Graduate Assistant supports intramural sports, sport clubs, and special event programming. This role assists in student official training, league scheduling, and development of inclusive sport and recreation opportunities.
Education
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and successful admittance to a Texas Southern University graduate program. Academic programs with a significant clinical/teaching requirement that would significantly limit assistantship availability may not be considered.
Experience:
Previous experience working in campus recreation, specifically in a leadership role for the respective area of application, is preferred, but not required.
Stipend/Tuition
Annual stipend of $13,500 and full out of state tuition waiver may apply (pending qualification).
Skills:
Applicants must be highly organized with effective time management skills; must be able to work in a fast paced environment, must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Applicants must have a willing to obtain a current American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certification and other specific certifications pertaining to the specific position.
