The University of North Dakota's Wellness & Health Promotion Department seeks a dynamic individual to join our team as a Campus Recreation Coordinator. Applications are being accepted through May 8, 2025, 11:55 pm CST.

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Programs and has direct responsibilities for coordinating the administration, supervision, and safe operation of the comprehensive campus recreation & sports program including but not limited to recreational intramural sports (ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, etc.), and other recreational programs. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to delivering excellent service, ensuring appropriate staff coverage and management of assigned areas, leading/officiating programs, and supervision (hire, train, develop, and review) of 40-50 assigned part-time employees. The campus recreation program, with over 3,000 participants annually, supports student recruitment, retention, success, and well-being.
Duties & Responsibilities (condensed)
Plan and administer a diversified Intramural Rec Sports program (ice hockey, basketball, volleyball, etc.) and Campus Recreation programs.
Plan and administer a Summer Recreation/Wellness Camp.
Coordinate, schedule, and monitor programs for students, faculty and staff.
Manage and secure associated facilities/spaces utilized for program needs.
Evaluate programs on a regular basis, adjust as appropriate.
Ensure risk management compliance in all activities.
Hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise all assigned student staff positions.
Process payroll and leave requests for all assigned staff in a timely and efficient manner.
Provide effective leadership, management, mentoring, and empowerment for all personnel.
Develop and manage annual budgets for all assigned operational/program areas.
Be familiar with, communicate, and apply all department/division/institutional policies and procedures.
Model professional and ethical behavior, utilizing department team values.
Use excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to build and maintain positive working relationships within the department, University, and community.
Provide excellent customer service to all visitors, students, staff, and faculty.
Contribute to the creation of an inclusive work environment by treating others with dignity and respect.
Other duties as assigned.

What we require (minimum requirements)
Bachelor’s degree: Exercise Science, Physical Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field
One or more years demonstrated experience and successful programming in recreation and/or sports intramurals.
One or more years’ supervisory experience.
Certification of First Aid, CPR, and AED or be able to obtain within 2 months of hire.
Successful completion of Criminal History Records Check.
What we would like you to have (preferred requirements)
Master's degree: Exercise Science, Physical Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or related field
Experience with supervision of student staff in a collegiate or university setting
Experience in budget management
Experience with officiating high school level sports or higher
Experience with and understanding ice hockey rules and regulations (high school or higher)
Experience with esports programs
