The UREC Athletic Training Clinic is located within the JMU UREC Wellness Center. The goals of the UREC Athletic Training program are to build a welcoming and encouraging environment where the Athletic Trainers work with students to evaluate and identify injuries, provide acute care, and educate them on next steps to care for their sports injuries. The UREC ATCs are also considered JMU Affiliates with access to university recreation and library benefits.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

• Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses in collaboration with athletic trainers including prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation within the scope of practice to club, intramural and recreational athletes through an appointment-based clinic.
• Directly provide medical coverage for Club Men’s and Women’s Rugby home practices and events.
• Electronic documentation of all patient encounters.
• Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs for each patient.
• Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
• Communicate with physicians, supervisors, team members and student-athletes.
• Promote and market Sentara Healthcare.
• Provide additional coverage support when necessary.
• Serve as a Preceptor for Athletic Training Students.
• Administer Baseline and Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing to student athletes.
• Maintain a budget and inventory for the Athletic Training Room
• Educate the student population regarding injuries, risk factor modification and exercise programs.
• Provide educational programs and pre-participation physicals to members of the community.
• Regular attendance in regulatory training and department meetings.

REQUIREMENTS

• Degree in Athletic Training and a valid state license and certification
• Current CPR Certification
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, decision making, communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
