The Recreation Services department with CU Boulder is accepting applications for a Senior Ice Rink Operations Coordinator! This position is responsible for supervising the daily operations, staffing, maintenance, programming, and scheduling of the university’s recreation center ice rink. The role will ensure a safe, well-maintained facility for students, faculty, staff, and community members. The role includes managing staff, scheduling programs, coordinating events, and ensuring compliance with safety and university policies. The Senior Ice Rink Coordinator also works with appropriate internal and external partners while providing program oversight to ensure compliance and operational success. Works independently with limited oversight.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Administration
Responsible for the cooperative development, management, and implementation of the ice rink facility and programs in the rink. Support daily operations of the Ice Rink Facility through development and delivery of diverse, high-quality experiences for students and the greater University community. Manage requests for facility usage and program needs from university partners and outside user groups and coordinate requested programs and special offerings. Develop and implement a curriculum for the training of staff to offer lessons and instructions for ice rink-related offerings. (i.e., learn to skate, skate lessons, hockey skills, etc.). Maintain statistics on user groups. Update and maintain program registration information for the ice rink in POS (Fusion). Provide supportive assessment and management of area challenges. Uses university procedural knowledge as well as area expertise to address and resolve pertinent issues, primarily independently. Communicates resolutions clearly with appropriate parties. Work collaboratively with University Marketing & Communications to create, manage, and implement any media and promotional needs. This will include social media advertisements, social media posts and reports, webpage edits, promotional fliers, etc. Maintain industry-relevant certifications. Develop training programs for staff on ice maintenance, safety procedures, and customer service. Serve as the primary point of contact for rink users, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment. Address concerns and feedback from students, members, and outside user groups.
Leadership/Supervision/Oversight
Directly supervise 25+ student employees. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, supervising, and ensuring pay for all student employees, offering continued oversight of employee status, and addressing any arising issues. This is done collaboratively with Student Affairs Human Resources. Assess and evaluate student staff and program staff annually. Assisting with ensuring proper maintenance is being completed. Assess in annual evaluation of maintenance staff assigned to the rink.
Facility Operations & Maintenance
Assist in supervising the maintenance of the ice surface, including resurfacing, temperature control, and ice quality. Ensure proper operation of rink equipment, including Ice Resurfacing machines, refrigeration systems, and skate sharpening tools. Assist with cleanliness and safety protocols in compliance with university and industry standards. Coordinates and assists with oversight of the recreation center maintenance staff and external vendors for repairs and upkeep. Maintain a log of internally generated work orders from the department’s software program. Document and repair required for each work order. Ability and knowledge to lay out different line requirements for the ice rink.
Fiscal Management
Responsible for supporting the fiscal operations of the Ice Rink, Skate lessons, and Skate Sharpening, working in collaboration with Student Affairs Business Services. Responsible for the rink’s budget, including revenue generation, expense control, and financial reporting. Manage daily operations such as skate rental, skate sharpening, and equipment sales. Maintain accurate usage records, financial reports, and inventory logs. Track budgets for student hourly, rink operations/maintenance, ice resurfacing machines maintenance and upkeep, and ice skate equipment. Provide Budget reports. Manage all inventory for ice rink operations.
Programming & Events
Supervise the rink for recreation skating sessions, intramural hockey leagues, figure skating lessons, Club Hockey events (practice & games) and campus and outside group rentals. Work with university club sports to coordinate team practices, tournaments, and special events. Schedule and manage private rentals, birthday parties, and campus-wide events. Partner with academic departments and recreation programs to integrate the rink into. Collaborate with university marketing and student engagement teams to promote rink programs and events. Develop marketing strategies using social media, campus newsletters, and student outreach programs. Engage with student organizations, alumni, outside user groups, and campus partners to increase participation and sponsorship opportunities. student life activities.
Risk Management/Compliance
Responsible for assisting in the implementation of risk management protocols to ensure the safety of rink participants on behalf of the University. Support the execution of risk management strategies to ensure a safe, rewarding student experience. Ensure equipment and facilities are safe and suitable for use, including all ice surfaces, ice skates, learn to skate equipment, helmets, hockey sticks, etc. Provide on-site event management and logistical assistance for special events hosted by the Ice Rink and Recreation Services.
Other
Work collaboratively with both internal and external program areas and departments to ensure successful programming. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings. Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs, and committees as required. Ensure that the Recreation Center's facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department quality by using and attending its offerings. Assist with additional initiatives, assignments, and special projects as needed.

3 years of experience in ice rink facility management and programming
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or achieve within first 3 months of employment.
