The Coordinator, Aquatics & Challenge works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, Facilities & Member Services for the Office of Recreational Services. The primary function of this position is to provide coordination, planning and supervision in Aquatics Operations, Programs, Challenge, and Safety Education of the department, which includes CPR/First Aid Courses, Lifeguard Instructor Courses, Lifeguard Course, Water Safety Instructor Course and Safety Trainings for Departments Personnel.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Aquatic Operations (45%)
Responsible for managing all functions and development of Lifeguard Instructor program
Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, disciplining, and supervising all Lifeguards and Aquatic Student Specialist
Assist with development of Aquatic Center policies and procedures
Responsible for providing risk assessments for Aquatic Center
Assist with the management of Aquatic Center operations including needed event management
Assist the Certified Pool Operator with maintaining balanced water chemistry.
Serve on the department safety team
Aquatic Programs (20%)
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all water safety instructors, and American Red Cross instructors
Manage all formal and informal aquatic and safety related programming as it relates to participation, revenue, and staffing
Manage safety trainings, mock emergencies, and semester audits on behalf of the department
Responsible for aquatic special event programs
Challenge (20%)
Assist with the creation, develop of policies and procedures, for the climb wall, high ropes course, and team building.
Hire, train, schedule, mentor, supervise, evaluate, and discipline all challenge student employees
Coordinate all planning and oversight of challenge area programs and events
Responsible for maintenance of challenge equipment
Safety (10%)
Responsible for leading the safety auditing process of all departmental student employees 10%
Prepare and conduct safety training of the departments professional staff and Graduate Assistants
Serve as chair of the Safety committee for the Department
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Oversee policies and procedures development for all areas of responsibility
Manage budget, strategic planning, and assessment as it pertains to the program area
Prepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial and participation reports, and equipment inventory reports
Serve as part of any university wide committees as appointed by Director, Office of Recreational Services
Attend all required Departmental and Divisional Staff Meetings and Trainings
Collaborate with campus partners
Some Weeknights and Weekend work required
Requirements
Bachelor degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education, Sports Administration or Related Field; Master Degree preferred
Minimum of two to five (2-5) years’ experience in Aquatic/Pool Management, or Relevant Experience
Outdoor/Challenge related experience and knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of Pool equipment and operations
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and/or WSI Certification required, or willing to acquire within 60 days of employment
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification preferred, or willing to acquire within 60 days of employment
Certified Pool Operator preferred, or willing to acquire within 60 days of employment
