Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Crew Coach for Student Affairs – Recreation. Rutgers Men’s Crew, established in 1864, holds the distinction of being the first organized sport on the Rutgers campus. With a proud tradition of excellence, the program continues to thrive and has been ranked among the top five men’s club rowing programs in the U.S. in three of the past five years. We are seeking a dynamic and personable individual with experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring young adults – someone who is inspired by the opportunity to develop the potential and passion of every interested rower.

• Assists in the day-to-day leadership, administration, and supervision of a comprehensive and competitive crew club program.
• Supports the broader Club Sports Program and contribute to summer camp operations if needed, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of the Rutgers Recreation Department.
• Works closely with Crew coach to provide leadership, vision, administration, and supervision of a comprehensive Men’s Crew Program in support and alignment with the Recreation Department Strategic Plan.
• Handles program and student development, assessment, scheduling, risk and fiscal management, revenue generation, and department support.

The hiring process for this position will include a virtual interview with our Search committee, and finalists will be invited on campus for a full-day interview to get to know our team and learn about our facilities, programs and services. Candidates invited to the full-day interview will need to be prepared to cover the travel expenses to campus.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• At least three (3) years of rowing experience at the collegiate level
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain it within the first six months of employment
• A valid driver’s license
• Access to a vehicle and the ability to pass the Defensive Driving course within the first 90 days of employment
• Demonstrate commitment to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences
• Proven commitment to student learning and development through teaching or coaching
