Stipend is from August to May, the stipend is equivalent to $7,500 for a regular semester(9 month total $15,000). Summer employment is paid at an hourly rate of $19/hour with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours/week. Graduate Assistant positions include a university tuition waiver and payment of the student health insurance premium. Tuition waivers are granted to cover nine credits of course work during the fall and spring semesters.

The Department of Campus Recreation at West Virginia University employs a team of Graduate Assistants that assist in the administration and delivery of the department's programs and services. Graduate Assistants work collaboratively with professional staff and others toward achieving our mission of providing exceptional recreation, wellness, and education opportunities that meet the needs of the West Virginia University campus community.
Campus Recreation is housed in the Office of Student Wellness, a division of Student Life at WVU.
Graduate Assistants in general will be responsible for staff supervision, administrative duties, project and event management.
While Graduate Assistants have their primary program area, they will also be required to assist with department initiatives and program areas outside of their area of expertise. This includes facility supervision, special events, serving on committees and work teams as well as other duties as assigned.
Graduate Assistants are required to work the full summer between the first and second year of their Assistantship. During the summer months, GA’s are paid hourly at a rate of $19/hr with the ability to work up to 40 hours a week. During this time GA’s may be required to work outside of their program area based on departmental needs.
Graduate waivers are only awarded to academic programs in the College of Applied Human Sciences. Degree programs offered include on-campus master programs in Sport Coaching, Physical Education Teacher Education and Sport Management. Area Specific Duties
Administrative duties to support a comprehensive group exercise program including paperwork, assisting in hiring, scheduling and supervising instructors
Administrative duties to support a comprehensive personal training program including payroll, new client intake, and scheduling special personal training programs
Develop, organize, and promote new and on-going special fitness & wellbeing events and services
In coordination with Office of Student Wellness units and other university entities; develop, organize, and promote new and on-going special events programs and services
Assist in researching fitness & wellbeing programming needs of students, faculty and staff; including long-range strategic planning pertaining to fitness and provides recommendations
Provide assistance for campus-wide initiatives and support campus partners as a resource for: wellness fairs, speaking engagements for halls/departments and service on various committees

Graduate Assistantship contract is contingent on acceptance into a WVU graduate school program.
