Position Summary:
The Coordinator of Campus Recreation for Fitness and Wellness is required to oversee and manage all aspects of the Fitness and Wellness Program at Campbell University. While jobs and expected performance are delegated to other positions, the coordinator oversees all decisions concerning group exercise classes, personal training, small group training, and other fitness and wellness programming needs. The coordinator also manages assigned special events and handles various administrative tasks. The coordinator facilitates opportunities for students to participate in fitness conferences/events on and off campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement fitness and wellness programs which supplement the mission of Campbell University that include group exercise classes, personal training, small group training, special events, and wellness programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, and supervise all fitness staff to include group exercise instructors, personal trainers, and other staff as needed.
- Implement methods of assessment for the fitness program and its personnel.
- Provide leadership and directions to one graduate assistant for fitness, group exercise instructors, personal trainers, as well as other student employees as needed.
- Stay up to date with all fitness staff certifications including CPR and First Aid, as well as any group exercise instructors’ fitness certifications.
- Develop, recruit, and teach group exercise and personal training instructor courses to interested students
- Responsible for the marketing of current Fitness and Wellness programs.
- Participating in long-range planning; implementation of programs and assuming other responsibilities as directed by the Director of Campus Recreation.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of both the Fitness and Wellness program budgets to include equipment and supply needs.
- Lead and/or assist with special events hosted by Campus Recreation, and act as a liaison between the Department of Campus Recreation and the Campbell University community.
- Oversee equipment and supply purchases following university purchasing guidelines and maintain inventory for the Fitness and Wellness program as well as assist with the maintenance of current fitness equipment.
- Assist in policy and procedure development, budget preparation, risk management policies, safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Develop policies and procedures to help mitigate liability and risk management within Fitness and Wellness.
- Perform regular evaluations of fitness programming, report results and recommendations to Director.
- Complete monthly payroll for student employees.
- Teach at least two group exercise classes per week and be readily available to substitute as needed.
- Be an active member of NIRSA including, but not limited to, attending state, regional, and national conferences as well as presenting educational sessions at those conferences.
- Must maintain regular office hours and be available during those times, unless needed at events.
- Report to the Director of Campus Recreation on appropriate topics of importance and need.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Recreation.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
- Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred in recreation, physical education, exercise science/physiology, public health, or related field.
- A current certification must be held from either the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American Council on Exercise (ACE) or the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Preferred experience in implementing group fitness and personal training programs.
- 1-3 years’ experience in Campus Recreation (2 years as graduate assistant will count as 1 year of full-time experience).
- Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.

- Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
- Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
- Familiarity with/Knowledgeable regarding IMLeagues, WhenToWork, Connect2Concepts, and other similar Campus Recreation software’s
- Knowledge of /Proficiency with /Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms
- Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
