The Assistant Director of University Recreation- Fitness is responsible for directing the overall design, management, and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated fitness program for the Northeastern University Recreation Department. Under the direction of the Associate Director of University Recreation - Programs & Student Development, this position coordinates the scheduling and supervision of the fitness programs serving the needs of a 20,000-student population in Boston as well as the needs of the entire global network, which includes the training, development, hiring, and evaluation of the Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers. This position provides direct supervision of the Coordinator of University Recreation - Fitness and the overall advancement of fitness programming.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develops and implements a comprehensive fitness program that includes group fitness and/or personal training, as well as fitness special events.
Directly supervises the Coordinator of University Recreation- Fitness.
Assesses effectiveness and satisfaction of fitness programs, services, and facilities.
Directly manage, implement, and schedule all fitness programming on the Boston campus as well as within the entire global network to include all other campuses.
Assist in monitoring of equipment usage, conducting inspections and risk management assessments, developing, and implementing system checks, and managing the maintenance and repair needs of all fitness equipment.
Provides leadership and supervision for assigned University Recreation facilities and personnel.
Responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the vision for Globalizing Recreation.
Required to work on pre-determined weekends covering events throughout a calendar year, some evenings and early mornings, and during inclement weather.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, health and fitness, kinesiology, physical education, or closely related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience designing or supervising group fitness and/or personal training programs and 2 years of successfully demonstrated experience in administering/supervising fitness programs or comparable related experience (relative GA experience will be considered).
Demonstrated experience within the health and wellness industry and the ability to effectively train Group Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers.
A minimum of 1 certification in Group Fitness and/or Personal Training as recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to adapt to learning in-house systems of management/logistics and robust daily operations of recreation facilities/programs.
