is recruiting a Graduate Assistant for Outdoor Adventures for the
2024-2026 academic years:
Outdoor Adventures(1 Position)
Assist the Outdoor Adventures Professional Staff with the management and operations of the Texas A&M Department of Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure program.
Typical Responsibilities
General Outdoor Adventures Program:
Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, mentorship and evaluating student personnel
Enhance program customer service through training, evaluation, staff feedback, and effective customer communication.
Assist with program development, record keeping and management of OA files and forms
Develop and help lead staff meetings and in-service trainings
Edit and update manuals and assist with risk management procedures
Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts to promote the outdoor adventures program
Serve on departmental, divisional, and university committees
Participate in other opportunities available through interaction with a comprehensive recreational sports program
Support the Director in full utilization of member service (Fusion), Microsoft Teams, Connect2Concepts and program planning software (Airtable)
Facilitate effective communication across our 50-60 student staff using formal weekly updates, informal check-ins, and shift reports
Assist with other duties as assigned
Support to Program Areas:
Fusion Member Management Software: Maintain accurate and complete program offering information, rental inventory, and point of sale in Fusion Software
Provide regular reporting of program registration, facility visitation, and other program service metrics to Program Professional Staff
Assist program areas (Indoor Climbing Facility, Rental Center, and Trips) in appropriate use of Fusion Member Management, planning documentation, and business processes.
Assist in program purchases, submitting purchase documentation, and budget tracking.
Support and mentor student supervisors
Assist in program assessment efforts of student employee learning and leadership
Assist Coordinator in payroll approval and tracking
Assist in scheduling of staff, trip staff, and route setters
Assist in regular staff reviews, formal staff evaluations, risk management tracking (trainings, certifications, etc.) and developmental progress in alignment with Undergraduate Learning Outcomes.
Indoor Climbing Facility:
Assist in delivery of high-quality customer service and member communication.
Support staff and instructors with relevant planning information for clinics and programs.
Assist in field based program logistics and planning – supporting student trip leaders with accurate and timely information regarding vehicle reservations, site reservations, and ensuring timely submission of required paperwork for university travel
Outdoor Rental Center
Help maintain accurate and working inventory, including purchasing new and replacement equipment, repairing damaged equipment, and recovering lost equipment
Assist in coordinating work tasks for staff at the Rental Center
Development
The Graduate Assistant for the Outdoor Adventures Program will be expected to intentionally develop in a handful of areas within the program. Some of these areas may include: Climbing, paddling, backpacking, marketing, budgeting, assessment, hiring, staff management, etc.
Experience and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree & Admission to Texas A&M Graduate School
Possess extensive experience managing multiple projects, organizing documentation, working with multiple involved stakeholders.
Training
Complete training will be provided by the Outdoor Adventures Staff
Stay up to date on required state training
Preferred:
Experience working in a university outdoor adventure program including gear rental, climbing facility, and trip programs (preferred)
Possess a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
AMGA or PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor Certified, Wilderness First Responder Certified, ACA Canoe or Kayak Level II Instructor Certified, ACCT Level I or II Certified, AMGA Single Pitch Instructor
Environmental Conditions
Weekend and evening hours will be required
