The Fitness Programs Coordinatorwill provide leadership and expertise to the fitness programs and services offered within Campus Recreation. Areas of oversight include instructional group fitness programs and other fitness and wellness initiatives, ensuring high-quality health and wellness offerings for students and the broader university community. Responsible for hands-on operations such as program development, marketing, facility operations, and staff management to a team of fitness instructors. Additionally, this role provides support to a variety of administrative and supervisory tasks, including financial clerical tasks, campus outreach and risk management.
JOB DUTIES
Fitness Programming (50%)
Program Leadership: Manage and oversee a diverse range of fitness programs, ensuring program development, participant satisfaction, and risk management.
Instruction & Expertise: Teach fitness classes in areas of personal expertise and certification, enhancing the program’s variety and appeal.
Innovation & Trend Implementation: Research and benchmark current fitness and wellness trends. Implement new programming and services based on ongoing assessments and emerging trends in fitness.
Marketing & Outreach: Coordinate marketing strategies for fitness programs, membership sales, and facility operations to ensure maximum participation and engagement.
Strategic Planning: Assist in the long-term planning and strategic direction of fitness programs and Campus Recreation fitness facilities. Develop and enforce policies, operating procedures, and departmental guidelines to ensure program success and adherence to university policies.
Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and evaluate 5-8 student group fitness instructors. Lead the training and professional development of fitness personnel, ensuring high standards of instruction and participant interaction.
Schedule & Registration Management: Oversee class schedules, registration processes, and address participant inquiries to ensure smooth operation and a high level of customer service.
Facility Management (30%)
Operational Support: Assist in the overall management of Campus Recreation facilities, ensuring quality service, program success, participant safety, and facility security and cleanliness.
Budget & Resource Management: Contribute to the development and management of budgets, operating policies, and long-term planning. Provide budgetary recommendations based on resource needs and ensure cost containment.
Facility Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities and equipment to ensure they meet safety and operational standards.
Staff Supervision: Assist Operations Coordinator in training, supervising, and evaluating student facility staff, including scheduling and managing payroll.
Risk Management: Support the implementation of risk management and customer service plans, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all participants.
Data Collection & Reporting: Collect and analyze data related to facility operations, participation, and participant satisfaction to inform future decisions and improvements.
General Administration(20%)
Collaboration & Partnerships: Build and maintain strong partnerships with campus organizations and departments to enhance student success and program offerings.
Professional Development: Maintain professional skill sets and certifications necessary for job responsibilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and promoting continuous personal and professional growth.
Administrative Support: Provide general office and administrative support to the Campus Recreation team, including clerical and financial responsibilities.
Social Media & Digital Outreach: Support the creation of digital content for social media platforms, websites, and promotional materials to engage the university community. Utilize appropriate channels to boost awareness and participation in fitness programs and events.
Event Marketing & Promotions: Assist in planning and executing promotional events such as fitness challenges, workshops, or wellness days, aimed at attracting new participants and maintaining engagement among current members. Ensure that events are well-publicized and effectively communicated to the campus community.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director to support the overall success of Campus Recreation and related programming.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree; prefer degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
1-2 years of relevant experience in a recreation or fitness-based environment.
Strong leadership, customer service, team-building, and decision-making skills.
Ability to take initiative, solve problems and meet deadlines.
Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
Certification from a nationally accredited fitness organization (e.g., ACSM, ACE, AFFA, NSCA, NASM, USA Weightlifting, or similar).
First Aid, CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
Experience with collegiate fitness and wellness programs, including group exercise, personal training, and wellness events.
Proven success in marketing recreation programs to increase participation.
