We are excited to announce our search for a new Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness! Tennessee Tech University, located in Cookeville, TN, is home to the newly opened Burnett Recreation Center. Working with our Health, Wellness and Well-being team, the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness will focus on programming that engages students and staff. Responsibilities:
Leads student-focused wellness programming, including marketing, budgeting, recruiting, training, and supervising instructors and student workers.
Plans, coordinates, and leads presentations, classes, and workshops on health promotion/wellness topics and focuses on delivering programming that aligns with components of the dimensions of wellness. Collaborates with campus partners and compiles and produces a semester/annual calendar of wellness events during the academic year.
Leads Campus Recreation’s student wellness initiatives. Creates, implements, and oversees wellness coaching program for students that focuses on creating healthy lifestyles.
Creates and executes programs and fitness classes. Develops an intentional marketing and communication strategy that engages members. Evaluates equipment and facility for safety.
Establishes and maintains a comprehensive risk management plan. Hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates student employees, swim instructors, and group fitness instructors. Monitors program participation statistics to evaluate success. Actively pursues revenue-generating wellness programs.
Collaborates with various campus departments (i.e., EXPW, nutrition, counseling center, etc.) to promote personal development and growth in the campus community.
Manages the operational budget for the fitness and wellness program.
Some weekends and evenings as needed. Other duties as assigned.

B.S. in EXPW or a related field from an accredited institution. Two years of administrative and supervisory experience in health, wellness, and recreation. Experience in scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff. Ability to establish and manage fitness and wellness programming. Knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and wellness concepts. Ability to develop a budget and generate supporting revenue. Experience working with child/youth camp programs. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Certifications and training required include CPR/AED, first aid, personal trainer certification, health education specialist certification, and group exercise instructor.
M.A. in EXPW or a related field from an accredited institution. Current certifications from a nationally recognized program such as AFAA, ACSM, or ACE in the following: Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor. Experience with Connect2, scheduling software, and Innosoft Fusion.
