Join the UREC team! James Madison University Recreation is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Communications & Engagement. The mission of UREC is to promote and advance healthy lifestyles through educational programs, participation opportunities and supportive services. Responsibilities:
COMMUNICATIONS: Collaborates with UREC professional staff to ensure up-to-date and easy-to-understand information is accessible for programs, events, services, facilities, and departmental information. Works with the UREC Services Specialist to ensure content on the UREC website, registration website and temporary facility signage is accurate and up to date. Coordinates representation at campus informational fairs.
ENGAGEMENT: Develops strategic plan to prioritize promotional engagement efforts. Responsible for the design and delivery of promotional materials. Responds to requests from students, faculty, and staff to advertise within UREC. Works with the UREC Services Specialist to schedule and submit information for digital signage, email campaigns, and UREC radio messaging.
SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENT: Responsible for authorizing, monitoring and responding to all social media communication on behalf of UREC in line with university policies. Develops content to build awareness of UREC offerings to promote student engagement, learning and program participation. Responds to requests from students, faculty, and staff to advertise through UREC social media channels. Coordinates photography/videography for the department and manages storage and access to these files.
LEADERSHIP: Provides supervision, leadership and mentorship to 10-12 marketing student employees and a graduate assistant. Hires, trains, mentors and evaluates these staff members in compliance with all applicable university guidelines. Conducts 1:1 and staff meetings as required to manage projects and timelines.
ADMINISTRATION: Collaborates and coordinates with Student Affairs and Health and Wellbeing communications and marketing staff. Serves as an active member of the Professional Staff Evening Facility and Program Supervision Team on a rotating basis. Maintains a filing and record keeping system. Prepares budget proposals and manages fiscal resources within area. Serves on committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Two or more years of related professional experience (two years of a graduate assistantship can count as one year of professional experience).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to teach project management skills and develop student staff.
Experience managing social media on behalf of an organization or business.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field.
Experience providing leadership and supervision to student employees.
Basic skills in photography, video and website management.
Works well on a team and embraces diversity and inclusion.
