Position Summary: The Director of Campus Recreation will serve as a member of the Department of Campus Life, providing oversight for the new 25,000 square foot recreation center, as well as leadership for the design and implementation of intramural sports, club sports, fitness, outdoor recreation, and esports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction for the Office of Campus Recreation for all functional areas within, including; recreation center management, intramural sports, fitness programs, outdoor recreation, club sports, and esports.
Responsible for maintaining effective and appropriate budget in Campus Recreation including the following areas; student workers, recreation center, intramural, outdoor, club sports, inventory, and maintenance.
Oversee facilities and participation locations (rec center, intramural fields) for campus recreation related events and programs. This includes staffing, scheduling, maintenance, and ensuring safety at all controlled locations.
Directly supervise the following staff: Coordinator of Outdoor Recreation & Club Sports, Coordinator of Fitness Programming, and two Graduate Assistants.
Recruit, select, and train all student employee staff (undergraduate and graduate) within the Office of Campus Recreation.
Implement a comprehensive fall, spring, and summer intramural sports program.
Ensure offering of a comprehensive fall, spring, and summer fitness programming.
Ensure offering of a comprehensive fall, spring, and summer outdoor recreation programming.
Recruit, advise, aid, and develop club sports in various areas to meet the needs of students.
Engage with faculty, staff, and students to assist in the offerings of varied recreational non-league sports throughout the academic year.
Design and implement assessment and evaluation strategies for intramural sports, club sports, fitness, outdoor recreation, and esports.
Implement summer programming and event opportunities to maximize facility usage and engage students, alumni, faculty/staff, and the community.
Maintain membership in related professional organizations to stay current with trends and issues in all areas within campus recreation.
Engage in strategic planning to continually improve student services by evaluating current program effectiveness and proposing innovative ideas to address evolving student needs.
Collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Campus Life; Division of Student Affairs, and across campus to support and ensure student retention and success.
Work effectively with all areas and staff members in Campus Life to create a holistic student experience.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to assist students.

Knowledge of assessment practices and program evaluation methods.
Ability to supervise and provide leadership and direction to multiple staff and graduate assistants.
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues within the Department of Campus Life, Division of Student Affairs, and throughout campus.
Professionally represent the Division of Student Affairs in all settings, including public speaking opportunities.
Willingness to actively participate as a member of the Department of Campus Life team by engaging in discussion, giving feedback, and updates, and providing creative and innovative ideas to move the Division forward.
Ability to manage a budget.
Ability to be a team player and support division-wide initiatives within Campus Life, Student Affairs, and beyond.
Ability to manage multiple projects in multiple functional areas.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effectively relaying updates and information to supervisor in a timely manner.
Detail-oriented and the ability to prioritize.
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in appropriate academic area.
4+ years of professional experience in higher education or related area.
Experience working in campus recreation, fitness programming, outdoor programming, or club sports at the college/university level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in health and human performance, recreation programming, higher education administration, college student personnel, physical education, or related field.
Previous experience in directing any of the following functional areas on a college or university campus:
