Purpose:
The Associate Director of Facilities and Operations is responsible for the overall, day-to-day operations of the Student Recreation Center which includes facility maintenance and custodial services, capital projects, space planning, and risk management. The Associate Director of Facilities and Operations will also be indirectly responsible for related personnel functions of direct reports including facility scheduling and event management, membership services, and aquatics. The Associate Director serves as the departmental liaison between FOM, A&E Services, EH&S, Risk Management, and OIT.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, and training professional staff employees within a large, complex recreational facility.
The Associate Director must be knowledgeable and experienced in risk management and safety practices as well as the methods utilized to train staff members on industry best practices.
The Associate Director must be knowledgeable and experienced in managing regular and preventative maintenance and custodial operations within a large, complex recreational facility.
The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in the development and administration of a large, complex operating budget.
The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in project management and space planning.
The Associate Director must possess strong organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential for success for all staffing areas.
Demonstrated strong conflict management skills and the ability to adjudicate conflict.
Key Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision
Lead and supervise Facility Operations, Business Operations, Membership Services, Facility Maintenance & Custodial Operations, Aquatics, and Risk Management.
Directly oversee professional and classified staff; indirectly supervise coordinators and 80+ student employees.
Manage hiring, onboarding, training, performance, payroll, and scheduling for all staff.
Facility Maintenance & Custodial Services
Oversee regular and preventative maintenance for all Campus Recreation facilities.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance with Boise State Facilities Operations & Maintenance and external contractors.
Develop and manage preventative maintenance and custodial plans to ensure safe, clean, and efficient facilities.
Manage custodial inventory, procurement, and compliance with university and state guidelines.
Risk Management
Chair the Campus Recreation Risk Management Workgroup.
Maintain and update the department’s Risk Management Plan, emergency procedures, and policy manuals.
Coordinate safety drills, annual safety assessments, and compliance with EHS requirements.
Fiscal Management
Oversee a $700K budget within a $3M department budget.
Manage financial operations, reconciliation, and reporting for Facilities Operations.
Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and compliance with fiscal policies.
Capital Projects
Serve as Affiliate Project Manager for facility renovation and capital projects.
Identify and address deferred maintenance and infrastructure needs.
Coordinate communication, access, and logistics during project work.
Lead insurance claim processes and disaster response efforts.
Space Planning:
Analyze and optimize facility space use; develop modernization and growth strategies.
Oversee furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) replacement planning and budgeting.
Manage technology assets, office moves, and inventory control.
Fitness Equipment
Oversee maintenance, inventory, and procurement of all fitness equipment.
Coordinate vendor partnerships and evaluate new equipment trends and layouts.
Department Leadership and Support
Serve on the Campus Recreation Leadership Team, providing strategic guidance and departmental support.
Lead or assist with major departmental initiatives such as Fall Orientation and RecFest.
Participate in divisional committees, hiring processes, and Student Affairs events.
Pursue ongoing professional development through conferences and workshops.
Support departmental events and special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
7 years of experience including 3 years managerial experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of experience supervising full-time professional and/or classified staff at an Assistant Director level or higher at a recreation center.
Two or more years of experience supervising custodial and/or maintenance professionals at the Assistant Director level or higher at a recreation center.
Two or more years of experience leading and/or coordinating capital construction projects at the Assistant Director level or higher.
Two or more years of experience developing and leading departmental risk management initiatives at the Assistant Director level or higher at a higher education institution.
Two or more years of experience supporting a facility with a pool and aquatics program at a higher education institution.
Experience in oral and written communication such as teaching: developing/delivering presentation content/materials; writing reports, proposals, professional correspondence, manuals; etc.
Experience working with a recreation-based membership management software application platform (Innosoft Fusion preferred)
Experience with facility management software (Connect 2 Concepts preferred)
Engagement in NIRSA, AORE, or other recreation professional association.
Experience programming or service delivery for diverse community populations
