Assist in managing, replacement, and organization of fitness equipment.
Assist in managing and supporting studio maintenance, equipment and technology.
Managing and monitoring group fitness and personal training schedules.
Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating fitness staff.
Teach fitness group fitness classes and work one on one sessions with clients.
Provide leadership within Campus Recreation by collaborating, supporting and engaging as part of a professional staff team.
Assist in the development of a student staff leadership training program.
Participate in professional staff meetings.
GSA of Competitive Sports
Assist in the overall administration and management of the Competitive Sports program including the planning, development, and marketing of intramural sport leagues and 24 club sports teams.
Work directly with club sport officers in the coordination of travel which includes booking lodging, rental cars, and sending travel letters.
Plan and conduct monthly Cohort meetings for club sport officers
Approve and track volunteer hours and budget allocations for club sports
Assist in the recruiting, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating of Intramural Supervisors and Sports Officials.
Help develop leadership training opportunities for intramural staff and club sport officers.
Assist with planning and conducting staff meetings for intramural sports staff.
Create and publish intramural league schedules and club sports practice schedules.
Attend and participate in professional staff meetings.
Campus Recreation GSA will develop field-based transferable skills:
Develop and apply leadership management strategies that support workforce competence and readiness.
Intentionally collaborate, support and mentor with Campus Recreation professionals.
Apply and learn industry standard practices.
Apply and create effective communication skills.
Evaluate and modify the effectiveness of programs.
Effectively problem solve to help meet the demands of dynamic and constantly changing requests.
Enhance academic learning through applying learned classroom skills.
Create rapport with professionals on a very dynamic, visionary, and fast-moving Campus Recreation team.
Position Requirements
10 months (AY), Position dates: Aug. 10- May 31
19 hours/week average (students cannot exceed 19 hours of work in a week, even with other campus positions)
GSA’s will be accepted and must be enrolled into an MSU Graduate program
The GSA is intended to be a 2-year assistantship.
Campus Recreation and/or the academic department may terminate the assistantship at any time with proper cause.
Graduate School’s requirements:
Enrolled in at least 6 credits at the graduate level in each semester at MSU
Maintain, term, cumulative and program of study GPA of 3.00 or better
Make progress toward the achievement of the degree (e.g., sit and pass comp exams)
*This position is part of the Graduate Employee Organization. As such, the student in the position must pay either monthly union dues or representation fees.
