We are inviting applicants to join our dynamic team at Rutgers Recreation to help us foster inclusive recreation experiences that promote self-discovery, belonging, and wellness for the Scarlet Knight community!
Rutgers Recreation offers programs and services to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the greater Rutgers community at 5 indoor facilities and 4 outdoor complexes across the Rutgers University – New Brunswick campus. Offerings include open recreation, swim lessons, fitness & wellness classes, personal training, massage therapy, instruction and safety certifications, club sports, intramural sports, summer camp, adventure recreation, memberships, facility reservations, special events and more.
Our Member Services team manages 220+ student employees, all front-line operations, facility scheduling/coordination, memberships, facility access, equipment loans, risk management, budgeting, and policy development at all Recreation facilities.
In the Member Services Coordinator role, you'll lead operations for Member Services at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center, University Park and Sport Club field on the Busch campus, in line with our strategic goals of Providing a Rec for EveryBody, Elevating Student Success, Promoting a Culture of Wellbeing, and Operating Sustainably:
Staff Management & Development
Provide leadership to the assigned Member Services team consisting of approximately 60-90 part-time staff.
Provide direction, resources, feedback, development, and mentorship, to all direct part-time staff to maximize learning, self-discovery and sense of belonging.
Ensure that staff meet training requirements and compliance essential to their work responsibilities.
Recruit, hire, schedule, develop, supervise and evaluate respective part-time staff.
Conduct annual performance evaluations for respective staff.
Support a positive and risk-taking team working environment for the Member Services team.
Facilitate discussion of team goals, roles, needs, development, and responsibilities.
Lead team meetings to review progress and performance.
Recognize the contribution of each and every team member.
Participate in defining individual expectations and team responsibilities.
Observe individual performances and provide objective feedback focused on behaviors.
Use formal and informal rewards and recognition programs for employees.
Observe individual performance and facilitate learning opportunities.
Support a sense of belonging and community
Administer and continually refine student staff training to foster an inclusive and equitable community within Member Services and the department.
Promote inclusive ways to advocate for the needs of all students.
Maintain sensitivity to different perspectives and identities.
Assist with the design and implementation of goals and learning outcomes that support the department's strategic plan:
Recommend and implement assessment strategies based on current research and practice.
Collaborate to compile and synthesize data into reports and briefings to inform decision-makers.
Facility Scheduling & Operations
Oversee daily operations for assigned facilities including access, issue reporting, equipment loans, memberships, concessions, locker rentals, and lost and found.
Manage reservations for assigned facilities, including corresponding with reserving groups, requesting contracts and invoices, conducting site visits and walkthroughs, and coordinating event support needs with the Facilities team.
Engage with users and respond to, resolve, or escalate their concerns.
Identify and implement service and process improvements.
Risk Management
Implement and oversee a comprehensive risk management plan for all areas and staff of responsibility, which includes:
Maintain staff certifications track for first aid, CPR, AED.
Provide continuing education related to risk management to staff.
Perform routine evaluation and assessment of emergency response plans and risk management practices.
Continue to develop and document risk management policies/procedures for all program areas.
Assess the factors that contribute to intentional and unintentional injury.
Carry out accident/incident investigations in accordance with appropriate emergency action plans.
Provide CPR/First Aid/AED Training as needed for Recreational Department staff.
Fiscal Management
Design, oversee, and implement the assigned Member Services Budget area:
Prepare, oversee, forecast, and manage the operating budgets for areas of oversight
Analyze, monitor, and report financial data, information, and reports.
Review, monitor, and report financial information and create reports as requested or needed.
Review and approve expenditures made for corresponding program areas.
Ensure appropriate financial policies and practices are in place and followed, including contracts and insurance information.
Departmental Leadership & Support
Establish effective and positive rapport with program staff, university personnel, students, and Recreation Department users.
In conjunction with the Recreation Department (REC) Pro-Staff, develop, participate, and/or coordinate departmental initiatives, including but not limited to first-year orientations, staff trainings, development workshops, hiring sessions, special events, etc.
Provide departmental and divisional support by participating in hiring committees and Student Affairs events and initiatives.
Participate, chair, and/or coordinate in REC Committees, Work Teams, and other assigned duties within the department to advance departmental strategic goals and objectives.
Continue professional development by participating in professional organizations and regular continuing education.
Participate in regular Recreational Department and Divisional staff meetings and conferences as requested.
Develop partnerships and collaborations across campus.
Stay updated on national trends in recreation and wellness standards and practices.

The salary assigned for this position is $68,278.48.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two (2) years of experience in staff training, supervision, and evaluation; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Training Certification or the ability to obtain it within first 90 days of employment. Current driver license and access to a vehicle and be able to pass Defensive Driving course within first 90 days of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Demonstrated experience working in a college setting.
Demonstrated experience overseeing daily facility fiscal and risk management.
Evidence of leadership experience and/or a commitment to student learning and development.
A comprehensive understanding of university Recreation programs, operations and services.
Proficiency with Smartsheet, DocuSign and Innosoft Fusion software.
Equipment Utilized
Microsoft Office 365, Smartsheet, DSERec, Innosoft Fusion Recreation Management.
Special Conditions
Ability to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed flexibly with regular weekday office hours.
