The Fitness and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the administration, development, implementation, and evaluation of all fitness programs, including group fitness and personal training. This position plays a key administrative and supervisory role, providing direct oversight of approximately 70 student employees, with a strong emphasis on facility staff leadership, performance management, and operational accountability. Additional responsibilities include training and scheduling staff; managing all program operations; overseeing equipment inventory, repair and replacement for open recreation equipment; and coordinating the purchasing of all cardio and strength equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience working in a fitness or recreation setting
Experience supervising employees
Current group fitness and/or personal training certification with one or more of the following organizations: ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA, NETA or ability to obtain within 1 year.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and organization
Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, professional, and solution-oriented attitude while working collaboratively with teams and individuals.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, Human Performance, Athletic Training, Recreation, Sport Management, Health Promotion, or closely related field
Fitness experience in a college or university setting
Demonstrated experience with program development
Knowledge of student development
Knowledge of and experience with a variety of cardio and strength equipment
Experience as an ACE Continuing Education Provider instructing personal training and group fitness certifications
