The Department of Campus Recreation at the University of Rhode Island is seeking qualified applicants for two (2) graduate assistant positions for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. Assistantships are eligible for renewal for a second year.

Positions Available (full description linked): 

• Fitness, Health & Well-Being
  Reporting to the Coordinator/s of Fitness, Health and Well-Being (2), the Fitness, Health, & Well-being Graduate Assistant will assist with the overall management and
  operations of the Fitness and Wellness program. Responsibilities include assisting in the hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and ongoing development of fitness and
  wellness student staff. The position supports group fitness programming, personal training services, wellness outreach, fitness floor operations, and special wellness promotion events. Additional responsibilities include teaching classes and/or taking on personal training clients, helping maintain equipment and facility standards, leading team meetings, and collaborating with professional staff and campus partners to advance a holistic well-being culture within the URI community.
• Intramural Sports
  Reporting to the Coordinator of Intramural Sports, the Intramural Sports Graduate Assistant will assist with the overall management and operations of the intramural sports program.  Responsibilities include assisting in the hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and leading of student staff in the development, scheduling, and oversight of a comprehensive intramural sports program. As well as collaborating with professional staff, and other university departments to contribute to the development of relationships within the URI community. All Graduate Assistants must be accepted into the URI Graduate School and enrolled in a master’s level program.

Each position will be evaluated and reviewed each semester by Campus Recreation administrator.

Compensation Package: 

• $23,846 stipend for 9.5 month contract; 20 hours/week
• Full tuition waiver, in or out of state
• Opportunities for hourly employment during summer months
• Health Insurance (100% paid by department) and Dental Insurance (75% paid by department, 25% student responsibility)
• Waiver of 40% of the graduate student standard fees (GA is responsible for the remaining 60% of standard fees.)
• Commuter parking fee waiver
• Membership in the Graduate Assistants United (GAU) union

Contract Start Date: August 23, 2026; with option to start earlier at hourly rate

Eligibility: Acceptance to any URI Graduate program. A minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA is required for consideration.
