The fitness coordinator contributes to the success of Campus Recreation by serving on the fitness team, overseeing fitness-related operations and equipment, and assisting with fitness-related programs. This position will supervise student employees, provide opportunities for participation in both informal and structured fitness programs, and maintain equipment inventory. Additionally, this position will be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork, professionalism and equity among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis. This position enhances the quality of students’ experiences and provides exceptional service to the USC community through daily interactions and long-term expectations and goals.
JOB DUTIES:
Provide appropriate levels of supervision to optimize effectiveness and ensure appropriate supervision to over 55 student employees. Develop expectations and goals that establish a clear path for success and a requisite meeting, communication and feedback strategy to promote fulfillment. Conduct requisite training and skills checks to optimize employee readiness.
Lead the development, coordination, and delivery of fitness programs—including orientations, clinics, workshops, and trainings—across multiple facilities to serve the USC community. Oversee program quality, assess service effectiveness, and support risk management efforts. Contribute to strategic planning, marketing, and implementation of fitness events, guided by current trends and ongoing evaluation
Develop associated budgets, manage expenditures and revenue streams utilizing specified tools. Assist with the development of long-range planning documents and the execution of associated priorities. Ensure all purchasing is conducted within the limits of fiscal authorization and in compliance with associated policies.
Contribute to the quality of students learning experience and academic success by transitioning students to a campus environment and meeting any specific academic resource needs they may have.
Collaborate to plan and manage fitness-space based events. Obtain all necessary services and supplies. Care for patrons from registration/invitation, through the event.
Be accountable for contributing to a positive, friendly work environment that encourages, enhances and demonstrates collaboration, teamwork, professionalism and equity among staff, students and patrons on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Current applicable fitness certification(s) (Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Training or Strength and Conditioning) from a recognized/accredited national organizations (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM) is preferred.
A variable work schedule that will reflect the job responsibilities and needs of the department throughout the academic year. Early morning, evening, & weekend hours will be required to perform job duties and responsibilities, as needed.
This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement/hazardous weather and other emergencies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Facility Management, Student Services Experience or related field, 1 year related experience.
Relevant experience in general fitness operations and equipment management oversight.
