Reporting to the Associate Director of Programs, the Senior Outdoor Education Coordinator will:
Oversee all operations of the SUMMIT Challenge Course at the Mount Vernon Campus, including site maintenance, reservations, scheduling, and training.
Manage the outdoor equipment rental operations, including equipment inventory, inspections, maintenance, budget tracking, and purchasing.
Coordinate group rentals and various special events.
Collaborate with campus partners by providing consultation for outdoor adventure programs, including but not limited to trip planning, risk management, team building, staff development, and program advising.
Practice proper risk management policies and procedures set forth by the Department of Recreation and Physical Education and update Outdoor Adventure Policies as needed.
Serve as an advisor to the GW TRAILS Organization.
Facilitate training that equips students with the knowledge and skills to become autonomous facilitators of outdoor adventure trips. Technical and non-technical trainings include, but are not limited to, basic wilderness medicine, CPR, First Aid, camp craft skills, canoeing, kayaking, backpacking, group development, risk management, and Leave No Trace.
Develop and implement an intentional leadership development curriculum for SUMMIT that creates facilitator consistency, aligns with institutional learning outcomes, and supports students’ ability to apply leadership skills in academic, professional, and interpersonal settings.
Oversee the organization and operations of all Adventure Bound trips, including but not limited to van rentals, outfitter reservations, payments, and tips.
Must be on call during all student outdoor trips.
Manage budget for SUMMIT, Trails, and all outdoor programs.
Promote and market Summit Challenge Course and Adventure Bound trips.
Build and manage an active lead pipeline for external clients of Summit Challenge Course.
Maintain website content and social media.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
