Position Summary: The Graduate Assistant for Competitive Sports will assist in the professional supervision of the Intramural Sports and Club Sports programs at The University of North Alabama.

Duties will include managing a comprehensive intramural sports program, assisting in the training and scheduling of student staff, and serving as a liaison for multiple sport clubs. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating competitive sports programming in collaboration with the Coordinator of Competitive Sports under the general direction of the Director of Campus Recreation. The Coordinator will determine an appropriate work schedule to ensure proper coverage of all events, which include evening games, weekend activities, and camps.

Duties:

• Intramural Sports
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and development of approximately 30 student employees
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and evaluation of a comprehensive Competitive Sports program to include team, dual, and individual sports leagues, tournaments, and special events
  • Provide on-site supervision for Intramural activities 
  • Manage IMLeagues web-based scheduling and participant registration
  • Market intramural activities across social media platforms
  • Assist with and lead officials’ training and complete officials’ evaluations
  • Assist with student payroll for Intramural Sports
  • Maintain program equipment and accurately track inventory
  • Update Intramural Sports policies, captain’s quizzes, procedures, and rules
  • Enforce all SRC policies and procedures
  • Prepare teams for NIRSA extramural events, including hotel and travel reservations
  • Assist UNA Recreation with events and cross-campus collaborations

• Club Sports
  • Work directly with club officers in planning and coordination of travel, home event requests, and other club events, both on and off campus, for up to 7 clubs
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of Sport Club Officer Training programs
  • Develop and oversee the administration of policies and procedures for the entire Club Sports program
  • Conduct and lead Club Sports officer meetings
  • Track progress of the Club Sports Tier System for funding allocations
  • Assist with home games/matches
  • Market club activities across social media networks

Assistantship employment will only be granted upon acceptance into the Graduate School at The University of North Alabama, to an applicant starting a relevant degree program in August 2026. Skills and Knowledge: Evidence of leadership and interpersonal communication skills suited for a growing, diverse collegiate community. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a cohesive team.

Preferred Qualifications: Involvement in preparing and leading educational presentations to groups of sports officials. Experience evaluating and supervising officials. Desire to enter the collegiate recreation field.

Compensation: The graduate position includes a $1,000 monthly stipend. It also covers tuition (fees not included) for up to 9 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters, and up to 6 credit hours during the summer semester.
